The children, teens and young adults who are served by CHASA may have some or all of the following conditions:
- hemiplegia: paralysis of one side of the body
- hemiparesis: partial paralysis of one side of the body
- stroke: many of the children have hemipareis or hemiplegia due to an early infarct
- other medical conditions which cause hemiplegia or hemiparesis such as traumatic brain injury, brain tumors, vascular disorders, clotting disorders, surgery to stop seizures, and more
- seizure disorder or epilepsy as a result of the early brain injury
- speech, language, and/or feeding problems
- learning differences, mental challenges
- happy, grumpy, excited, sad, frustrated, smart, adaptive, caring, loving kids
We also provide information to those who assist children who have a diagnosis of hemiplegia:
- parents of children with hemiplegia, hemiparesis, childhood stroke
- adults who have had hemiplegia or hemiparesis since childhood
- caregivers and teachers of children with hemiplegia
- pediatric physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists and other medical professionals who treat children with hemiplegia
- pediatric neurologists, orthopedic surgeons, physiatrists, psychologists, and other medical professionals who treat children with hemiplegia
